Harper Conservatives throw rocks at Ignatieff from glass houses

The Honourable - using the term loosely - John Baird, federal Conservative Minister of Transport was kind enough this week to send me a letter - at my expense of course.

The Honourable John, if I can be so informal, wanted me to know more about his good friend and colleague Michael Ignatieff, the federal Liberal leader.

Now, I'm not sure why the Honourable John mailed me a letter all the way from his riding of Ottawa West-Nepean to my riding of Vancouver Quadra, unless it was because despite the $59 billion deficit his government has postage and printing money to spare.

Anyway, the bigger question I had is this - why would the Honourable John want to send a poison pen letter at taxpayer expense with the message above.

Because when you live in a glass house it's not a good idea to throw stones.

Not that the Honourable John can't back up his Iggy quotes - here's the inside of the letter he sent me.

But Honourable John's own Prime Minister - Stephen Harper - has also made lots of dumb statements in the past - like this one on Atlantic Canada:

"There is a dependence in the region that breeds a culture of defeatism," (CBC News, May 30, 2002)

Or this one about our country:

"Canada appears content to become a second-tier socialistic country, boasting ever more loudly about its economy and social services to mask its second-rate status..."

Or another one about protecting Alberta from Canada:

"It is imperative to take the initiative, to build firewalls around Alberta, to limit the extent to which an aggressive and hostile federal government can encroach upon legitimate provincial jurisdiction."

Or this quote about who votes for the Liberals:

“You've got to remember that west of Winnipeg the ridings the Liberals hold are dominated by people who are either recent Asian immigrants or recent migrants from eastern Canada: people who live in ghettoes and who are not integrated into western Canadian society.”

Yikes!

Perhaps the federal Liberals will send me a similar letter soon with these and other quotes about Stephen Harper - and I supply them to Iggy here for free.

But I'd rather that all parties talk a lot more about their policies and a lot less about their opponents' many and obvious failings.

And most of all - stop wasting my damn tax dollars mailing me junk I didn't ask for!!

Didn't you hear there's a recession going on?

What you said, Bill.

How did that disagreeable Honourable John ever get elected? I read in Jane Tabor's column that whenever Big Steve is out of town, Mrs Harper calls on Hon.John to be her escort.

Duh.

All politicians are dirty and Harper is just a lap dog Mercan.
In a speech in the United States to a major conservative organization, the Council for National Policy, Harper declared that “Canada is a Northern European welfare state in the worse sense of the term, and very proud of it.”
Harper also mocked Canadians as complacent and ill-informed. “If you're like most Americans, you know almost nothing except for your own country,” he told his CNP audience. “Which makes you probably knowledgeable about one more country than most Canadians.”

Rex Murphy on the CBC today was telling us that harpo got into politics then ended up as leader but his big ambition was to be a rock star. Rex of course explains in much better than I just did. So the questions are. Where do they did up these clowns from? Hopw can sane people vote for such slugs?
I keep geting letters from MPS from a couple or three provicnes away which usually are slagging the other so called leader. I wouldn't vote for either to be dog catcher. But free mailing service brings out the dummies

How on earth did these "Honourable men" ever get elected, let alone attain high office?
It boggles the mind, and I am very worried about who is running the country.

Such letters from MPs are just so much farting and burping. They dont give a fig about your intelligence - to spot contradictions and hypocritical behaviour.

Here's the ultimate example of how politicians treat the working class: President Johnson on the phone ordering a pair of pants from a tailor while burping and generally being rude - cuz wtf the guy is just a tailor, a nobody, to him.

Thanks for commenting on this hideous habit of the Reformatories. It is disgusting and insults the intelligence of the voters - likely contributing to the vast majority of eligible voters who can't be bothered to vote anymore.

As to "Honourable John" - makes me think of a toilet!

Regarding the first commenter and when Stevo is out of town - I imagine if anyone sees Lurleen (or whatever she is called) and Big John strolling about, they just thiink she is walking her bulldog!

I could rant and rave about the childish antics of politicians of all stripes, casting aspersions on each other, but I won't.

What really bugs me about this news story is what it reveals about the abuse of the free mailing privilege MPs have to forward important public information to constituents.

This is not how a democracy functions. Shame on those who made use of the particular MP's mailing privileges for this purpose.

MP's get the term "Honourable" applied once they are elected... in many cases, I believe they think it gives them a free ride to act otherwise.

MPs are still only MPs. But if Joe Blow is appointed to Cabinet, he then becomes the Honourable Joe Blow.

I forget how Joe gets to be called "The Right Honourable Joe Blow ..."

That must be why people fight tooth & nail to get themselves elected ... for our sake, they say. To serve us, they say. Ha.

Lets not talk of a few pieces of
accurate postscards from Conservatives. Lets take a closer look who Iggy is, where, what beliefs he holds and you all may be more worried about the (NAU)Union of Canada/US and Mexico if he gets voted in. He's a double agent and member of the US Council on Foreign Relations, parachuted in to take over Canada to sell us down the turnpike to his Globalizing freinds at the CFR. You all have done due dilligence on
the CFR I hope. Globalists don't like patriots/nationalism and want eventually to consolidate Gov.and power the world over. I would like to ask Iggy of his speech at the CFR in NYC.("Global governance and transitonal Issues"). Is Canada just a transitional issue to you Mr. Iggy come lately? Speech by another member, "Global conseqences of the Crisis" states; We hope our friend Mr.M.Iggy becomes PM of Canada". right off the CFR web site. He will set policy for deeper integration and common currency once there is some flase flag or reichstag like event like the thermite cut towers at 911. Don't go to sleep to soon Canada. Time to stay awake from now on to guard the farm. How did this guy waltze in to Stornoway to begin with and where the weasel is the security in this country. To get you all started, the CFR, composed of: Fed. reserve banks/largest media conglomerates/4 divisions of US war machine/CIA/Govanors/Senators etc. and started by a Rockefeller, to keep the rich and powerfull old money, powerfully rich through Globalization. When you lose goverance of your country to powerhungry greedy elitists, Iggy's friends; you won't be concerned about couple scrap pieces of paper you had to pay for forced on you by Conservatives. Stay awake or say, Goodnight.

Michael Ignatief is scaring the bejeebus out of the Federal Conservatives because he is smarter than they can ever imagine. How do you beat an opponent that is better than you are, you try to discredit them and even worse, you make it a "crime" to be a smart person by using terms like "who does he think he is?" and "He thinks he's better than you","you" being the lowly, poorly educated people that the conservatives for some reason think we are. Let's show them who we really are and put the Harper Conservatives on the sidelines where they belong.

I get two of those letters EVERY WEEK.Most from Baird but I got one today from Mark Warawa who mails a letter to apt 201 informing me about home renovations.I know I've received at least two a week for the last 3 months. That's what I love about the reform party, they still deny climate change and prove it with every letter.Wonderful example from our so called environment minister.
