Anti-Scab vote shows which Liberals killed Bill C-257

A recorded vote in the House of Commons Wednesday lists which Liberal Members of Parliament voted to kill Bill C-257, the private members bill that would have banned the use of replacement workers in federal labour disputes.

The vote shows that led by leader Stephane Dion, recent leadership candidates Michael Ignatieff and Ken Dryden and former Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin, most Liberal MPs voted with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his Conservatives to block passage of Bill C-257.

The New Democratic Party and the Bloc Quebecois supported the bill, which was moved by BQ MP Richard Nadeau.

British Columbia Liberal MPs Blair Wilson and Keith Martin voted with Dion and Harper to kill the anti-replacement worker legislation.

Ujjal Dosanjh was not present for the vote.

Full credit to British Columbia Liberal MPs Stephen Owen, Don Bell, Sukh Dhaliwal, Raymond Chan and Hedy Fry for voting in favour of Bill C-257 despite Dion's speech to the Liberal Caucus opposing the legislation, a move that effectively killed it.

Good post, Bill.

When the Liberals come knocking next time saying "vote Liberal; we share the same values as the NDP" it will be good to remind Dion of these 29 Liberals who voted in favour of ending scabs in the fall, but flip-flopped last night.

Remember who your elected supporters are. I was in a federal union in a legal strike position when scabbed by the "Chin" Lying Brian M. when he was PM. It was a tough strike and one of our members was run over by a scab semi trailer truck driver. She was crippled for life, the guy who hit her had charges dropped. She was legally picketting along the side of a road. dl

Anon,

Horse feathers. "She was legally picketting along the side of a road." Just standing on the sidewalk minding her own business. I bet the truck picked up speed and jumped the sidewalk to get her?

I'm sure the courts dropped the charges because the union member was responsible for or partly responsible for her own injuries.

Hey anon,801, you wern't there and lots of us were. The member was in a legal spot to picket so either get real or maybe you like scabs running things. Nobody but you said she was on a sidewalk. Or maybe you think a protest is not allowable in this part of the world?
