Shameful vote in Parliament imposes HST on BC, Ontario - only NDP votes against Harmonized Sales Tax

A shameful 192 to 32 vote today in Parliament - the Conservatives, Liberals and Bloc Quebecois joined together to amend legislation that is the first step towards impose the new Harmonized Sales Tax on BC and Ontario - with only the New Democratic Party MPs voting against it.

The actual HST legislation will come likely come Friday but today's vote leaves no doubt it will be passed by the Conservatives, Liberals and Bloc.

This means fighting the HST shifts back to the provinces - but that fight is far from over.

I again urge you to sign up at Fight HST for the province-wide Initiative campaign which will demand a vote on the HST.

And if you haven't joined yet, go to NO BC HST - British Columbia's largest Facebook protest group with over 129,000 members and sign up.

Lastly - remember how your Member of Parliament voted on the HST for the next federal election - I will update that vote as soon as possible.

Speaking of shameful, you should have seen the provincial NDP convention last weekend. Must we look to the Liberal party for hope of democracy in provincial politics. I don't think it's likely but I'll check it out, anyone know when their convention will be held?

Some sanity at last. Bring on the HST. Best news of the day.

Only 32 of the 37 NDP MPs voted. What happened to the other 5? They couldn't care less.

The big talk by Keith martin a couple of days ago sort of went flat. he didn't quite get into the room to vote, nor did a number of other Liberal MP's. Thanks guys for another tax but as the old saying goes" tax me I'm Canadian"

It’s fun watching you go down in flames Tieleman. All of the time you waste in a lost cause. Everyday you become more and more irrelevant. Unfortunately Bill you have cried wolf too many times. Maybe you can start a Facebook page for the ‘Leafs to win the Stanley Cup. Another time waster for you when this one fails.

Disgusting turn of events. 84 elected MPs do not vote, when only 2 of them have a legitimate excuse. Harper and Day are in China, but what are the other 86 being paid for. If they avoided the vote so as to not vote along party lines then they should immediately resign their seats. They may not have changed the result, but their lack of participation shows nothing but disrespect for their constituents.

Down in flames? See new post above - 75% of BCers oppose the HST, 63% strongly!

I suggest that the BC Liberals are going to go someplace very, very hot to pay for their HST sins.

But if you enjoy watching - get a comfortable seat - this is going to go one for a long time.

Only 75% oppose. That's already down from 95% in September. We are 100% oppose of death but there's nothing you can do about Tieleman. It's nice to be rich.

Nice to see you are so concerned with everything I write about the HST - thanks!

Typical Tieleman. Unknowledgeable, ,an offer critisism, but can't offer any solutions. You're a politician in disguise!!!! Best solution is too cut services and let everyone fend for themselves. Survival of the fittest.

"Only 75% oppose."

Lol. Check and mate. Shouldn't you also be bragging about the 5% of people who understand that consumers will benefit from the glorious HST?

YOU HEAR THAT, TIELEMAN??

ONLY 95% think the HST will hurt consumers!!!!! You fail again.

Tieleman is irrelevant. I mean, he hasn't even single-handedly defeated the HST in Parliament, and everyone knows that he's played no role whatsoever in turning the public against this tax.

"Best solution is too cut services and let everyone fend for themselves. Survival of the fittest."

I agree, I don't think people like you should survive either.

Looks like the PAB is watching you Bill by the tone of their posts...
If you keep the PAB busy here they can't lie to us elsewhere.

Gordo keeps his PAB rats barely fed. JUst look at all the posts here, all desparate. If you keep this up, they will start to eat each other.

I really, really like to see the rats eating each other. Keep up the good work Bill!

So cleaver with the PAB jokes. So original. A rat is still above a cockroach. Typical uneducated fools. Increase taxes is the only solution.

While the PAB and others are welcome to deride the HST here, undue personal insults and bad language won't be posted.

Try harder to those who have been rejected - I'm sure you can find some way to disagree without indicating how low your IQ is.
