Where in the world is Patrick Kinsella in the BC Liberal campaign?

Inquiring minds want to know - and we want to find out - so vote in our poll!

Premier Gordon Campbell has said that Patrick Kinsella - the former BC Liberal campaign co-chair in 2001 and 2005 is "working on a local campaign" but is welcome to join the main campaign if he wants.

Campbell also said that he hasn't talked to Kinsella "in ages."

That might be because Kinsella received $297,000 from BC Rail for business advice before, during and after the sale of BC Rail to CN Rail.

Or because the defence in the David Basi-Bob Virk case has alleged Kinsella may have also been working for CN at the same time as the $1 billion privatization went through.

Or because Kinsella has been accused in the BC Legislature of being an unregistered lobbyist, allegedly violating BC Liberal legislation.

But whatever the reason, it's time for this blog's most excellent and intelligent readers to weigh in!

To your right please find our first ever poll - please make your choice and we will see what our collective wisdom says about where Patrick Kinsella really is!

The NDP's first ads attack Lib' "corruption" in the BC Rail kleptomania. I assume they want to gauge reaction, before they state names, dates and facts. There will be finger pointing.

Let's settle something now: Stonewally has no chance in Delta, and Kash Heed is dead meat in Oppal's old close to Cambie ditch' riding. I drove past Broadway and Cambie today; traffic is as bad as it was 3 years ago. Mayencourt will get early retirement as well.

Patrick is probably "bunkered" in at Oliver North's fortified mansion helping Olie organize a new generation of Contras to fight the NDP and for a fee . . . arranging arms shipments to Iran.

Of course "President" Gordon Campbell will be unable to remember anything . . . just like Ronald Reagan.

Bill, better question:

You're founder of the "Axe the Tax" group on Facebook. Recently several environmental groups have come out against this position, and several newspapers have said the NDP has "sold out"; whats more is that the NREE's recent report suggests that a carbon tax, in conjunction with a cap-and-trade program (two proposals voted down by the NDP, despite the NDP claiming the latter being key to their campaign) --

with that preface, where are you and your Axe the Tax campaign?

You have yet to comment on the dastardly carbon tax and how it's screwing every citizen of the province.

Is that because 1) it isn't, 2) with gas prices lowered, no one is fuming quite as much, 3) because the vast majority of environmentalists agree with it, even traditonally left leaning ones, or 4) all of the above?

Wait for Tuesday's column on the carbon tax and the sellout of some environmentalists to the BC Liberals - including Tzeporah Berman.

I am adamantly opposed to the carbon tax to this day.

Tzeporah & ZeroCarbonCanada, ForestEthics, David Suzuki, PowerUp Canada, the Pembina Institute, Mark Jaccard (90's advisor to the BCNDP government), the NREE, Keith Baldrey, Mike Smyth, and Vaughn Palmer (those three accusing the NDP of selling out), the DeSmogBlog, countless other bloggers and newspapers across the country...

Does seem odd for sellouts to call those sticking with their principles sellouts though...

Looking forward to your column Bill.

The correct answer is none of the above. Kinsella has voluntarily sought witness protection, undergone plastic surgery, is working under an assumed name for the Public Affairs Bureau and is posting nasty comments on your blog.

A few other options, more whimsical in nature:

*With Rod Blagojevich and Bernie Madoff playing golf for the last time before they have to go to prison.
*Crying on Brian Mulroney's shoulder about how he wished he'd been a Tory instead.
*On a private club car, somewhere undisclosed in the CN Rail network, playing pool with the ghost of WAC Bennett.
*On the phone with Governor Scharzenator, explaining why he can't arrange California's buy-out of BC's film sector infrastructure.
*Wishing he could have been a fireman instead.
Wishing Gordon would come clean so he'd get all the heat instead.
*Thinking of accepting Governor Palin's invitation to work on negotiating Alaska's purchase of Canada.
*Wondering what the film rights might be worth.

Check the credentials of the "environmental groups" that have come out against the NDP. ForestEthics is a full supporter of the run of the river sellout. Gee that doesn't sound like a "real" environmental group, it sounds more like a hacked together BC Liberal support group....It's too bad we don't have any real mainstream media. This BC Liberal newletter/CanWest group is pathetic...I'm looking forward to your post on the carbon tax Bill :)

Would someone tell me why Campbell and his bunch want to privatize B.C.Hydro? I don't know of anyone living in this province that wants to see his/her bill double within one year if he is allowed to pull this off. What is it with these goofs when they get into parliment? What is his personel agenda regarding this stupid move? Smarten up Campbell!!

The sellout by these so-called enviromentalists is obvious. The NDP has been against the carbon tax for some time, yet these "supporters" of the NDP policy waited for the election writ to be dropped.Smells bad to me.

What about all the other environmentalists Barkley?

Tzeporah is a well respected blogger and ex-card carrying member of the NDP; David Suzuki is... well, David Suzuki; PowerUP Canada is another left wing group. The Pembina Institute is traditionally left wing. Mark Jaccard, as I pointed out, was, in the glory days of the NDP in the 90s an environmental advisor - right now he is an authority on Climate Change in Canada and North America. The NREE is, well, anything but partisan, Keith, Mike, and Vaughn are all well respected journalists; all have columns, and Vaughn and Keith have a weekly segment with Bill Good. They're always quite critical of both parties as well so I doubt partisanship. The DeSmogBlog isn't even a BC blog, too.

You covered ForestEthics with your NDP spin, but what about these guys?

Bill, I realize you are in NDP campaign mode, and most of what you say about the Campbell Libs, true enough. But you and your fellow NDP PR flacks have a serious problem on your hands: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/bcvotes2009/story/2009/04/13/bc-ndp-carole-james.html and then this one that is just breaking, "Key supporter quits NDP over carbon tax" - http://www.vancouversun.com/Technology/supporter+quits+over+carbon/1505134/story.html

This problem could have been easily avoided by Carole James et al a year ago by simply showing cautious support for the carbon tax, promising to make it even greener and more diverse (a carbon tax that places greater weight on big polluters). There any number of creative ways to support the Liberal carbon tax, yet frame your support in a way that includes enough criticism to create a meaningful debate around the issue. But no, the NDP had to resort to classic knee-jerk reactionary partisan disagreement. Now the environmental chickens are coming home to roost - in the midst on an election campaign. Another brilliant NDP PR move, bravo Carole James! Talk about being out of touch with the climate emergency times!

You are pretty funny,Campbell has spent the last year to prepare to defend the gas tax,lol.....

I heard John Malcolm`s interview with Tzeporah Berman this morning......

Tzeporah Berman said after bashing the NDP,she is against Gateway, she is against salmon farms, she is against expanding the oil and gas industry, she is against many BC Liberal items......
John Malcolm then asked who she was going to vote for,Breman said she would not vote for the BC NDP........
Then Malcolm asked her if she was going to vote for the BC Liberals..........
Tzeporah Berman answered .....?

She didn`t respond,so it looks like Tzeporah Berman is supporting the Green Party......

So,from what I gather is this,Gordon Campbell is and his Carbon tax is fading fast.......

Campbell`s economy is off the radar,it`s all about Carbon tax and prisons, and Patrick Kinsella, apparently Patrick Kinsella`s partner got a gaming license after Kinsella met with (still under a cloud) John Les.

So the greens won`t be voting for Campbell,NDPers won`t be switching to Campbell,Conservatives won`t be voting for Campbell.......

Looks like the only one`s voting for Campbell will be Joan Mcyntire`s freinds at the Mustel group.........

I wonder if Rich Coleman is vulnerable in Langley, in spite of slavish support from the Langley Advance? Few other journalists - or whatever - would accept Coleman's dirty record in riding shotgun for Vancouver cops after the Frank Paul incident. Nobody could deny that the public airing of the issue had considerable public value. Coleman fought, as Solicitor General, against all scrutiny.

Vancouver Magazine has published a somewhat balanced article on Coleman's "populist" operation of the Housing Ministry.
http://www.vanmag.com/News_and_Features/The_Coleman_Projects?page=0%2C0

Not everyone likes what Coleman has done to DTES Single Occupancy hotels. Residency in the government owned facilities is based on dubious database information. Since January 2003, any BC cop has been allowed to write secret data onto Corrections' CORNET database. I have learned that thousands of persons face highly subjective if not defamatory data hurdles when they apply for either government or government regulated jobs. Decisions are made based on CORNET fictions, again without disclosure to the victims. I learned of this when a party - never charged with a crime - threatened a lawsuit unless his CORNET file was released. The file was released and it is pure BS. Police enforcers of their occupational-culture refer to career ruination smears as "phone jacketing." Coleman (ex-RCMP beneficiary of their perverse 45 year pension for 25 years of work) made defacto legalization of the practice.

Secret defamation of innocent persons? Is that not an election issue? Last I heard the Supreme Court of Canada upheld a one-year incarceration of a couple who were convicted of Defamatory Libel against a cop, even though the cop later settle a suit by one of the accused.

Actually they're a large US-based group but with a slapped-together sort of roster and style; salaries for the fundaisers is what it looks like they raise....I ran into them in Wikipedia on the Great Bear Rainforest article, where they'd tried to paint themselves as at at the lead of the pack in the preservartionist cause on the region, ahead of Greenpeace and the Sierra Club, and wilfully re-placing a spamvertisement in the article's external links.

I just reversed this edit:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Great_Bear_Rainforest&diff=prev&oldid=283619737

and previously there was this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Great_Bear_Rainforest&diff=281577993&oldid=280038418

and you'll find my comments about my reversals of those on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Great_Bear_Rainforest#Suspicious_COV.2FPOI_edits

"Information massaging" is common throughout Wikipedia, usually by IP users (not logged in, hard to trace/blame - the IP in this case is a Shaw user in Surrey, that's all I'm able to figure out - 24.84.208.216 )

More pointedly, a lot of people want to use Wikipedia articles as advocacy or advertising, which is decidedly against the rules. Environmental articles are every bit as corporate ones in this regard, never mind political bios....

But it was interesting to hear the ForestEthics is into run-of-the-river, because it's that region that they're making the fuss about Great Bear, and insisting their first in line at that. "See, look at us, we're environmentalists, too, send us all your money, forget about all those other groups"....

Same kind of crew that posted an evocative picture of Princess Louisa Inlet as if it were typical of (of all places) the Strait of Georgia.....

Its rather comical that the NDP thinks that this tired old story will somehow propel them to victory in a few weeks.

This election was handed to the NDP, and it was over before it even got off the ground.

James will go down in humiliation for running one of the worst campaigns in Canadian history. Have another fun 5 years in the wilderness NDP.

No interest in Coleman's Stalinist work in DTES housing? Clearly, it is geared to panderage to West End and Point Grey elitists. Housing is being denied to persons with criminal records, in spite of the fact that Vancouver Police has a record of criminalizing poverty. They love that in Spanish Banks sea-side mansions.

Bill Tieleman, a left-wing journalist and commentator in favour of all things NDP, was on CKNW on Easter Monday saying that if a business is only barely profitable, then it shouldn’t be in business at all.

A caller to the radio show made the point that raising the minimum wage would cost jobs for many small businesses and significantly hurt profitability in this unstable economic climate. Host Bill Good agreed with the caller. But Bill Tieleman spoke up and firmly stuck his foot in his mouth, saying:

“Why do we support businesses that are marginally, minimally profitable in the first place? If you are that marginal then maybe you shouldn’t be in business.”

http://votesmartbc.blogspot.com/

What a stupid comment by Bill - just shows his lack of understanding of simple economics and business. He is saying when businesses compete so that their prices are cutthroat, then they should increase the wages so they go out of business - and costs of good go up - sothat consumers end up subsidizing the minimum wage earner.

And you call this "progressive"?

Bill Tieleman said...

Glad to see the folks who helped build many people's leaky condo - mine included - are back explaining how business works to me!

VoteSmartBC - made up of non-union construction companies - should do an analysis of the $1 billion plus in repairs individual owners were forced to pay when the New Home Warranty plan they promoted went bankrupt.

And how the BC governemnt was forced to bail homeowners our at taxpayers expense. Then perhaps they can lecture about good business ethics and practices.

But I don't deny for a moment what I said because it's true.

Small businesses that are so marginal they can't afford to pay the first increase in 8 years to workers making $8 an hour for that long should fail if they can't compete without government subsidies paid for by you and I.

Minimum wage workers get GST cheque subsidies quarterly, the Medical Health Services premiums are subsidized and they receive other low income supports.

I don't begrudge those workers any of those things but they should not be necessary - businesses should pay a "minimum" wage that allows workers to get by without government assistance.

And that means those opposing the minimum wage hike to $10 are fighting not for workers but for marginal small businesses that the free market says should not continue.

I don't want to see anyone more unemployed - under Gordon Campbell BC is now leading Canada in unemployment increases - 23,000 in March alone! - but don't come to this blog pretending you are fighting for workers - you are fighting for profits and for Campbell.

And an honest right winger would actually agree with my position, not denigrate it.

James Plett said...

But I suppose that, Bill, you support taxpayers (like you and I, Bill!) supporting failing crown corporations? Ones that are marginally, minimally profitable?

And clever wording - "unemployment increases". You must hold a PHD in spin-doctoring!

Where's BC as far as UNEMPLOYMENT RATE (you know, the stat that people actually use) goes?

Campbell in attack mode over BC Rail
Nafeesa Karim | Email news tips to Nafeesa
4/20/2009

Gordon Campbell is going into attack mode when it comes to the BC Rail scandal.

When asked about the NDP's calls for a criminal investigation into liberal insider Patrick Kinsella, Campbell says the RCMP are totally independent, and it's pretty sad right now what we're seeing with the NDP opposition.

He says a party that used to be recognized as a party of principal is becoming a party that's looking pretty desperate.

The NDP wants the mounties to investigate allegations Kinsella worked for both BC Rail and C-N when BC Rail was sold.

And the liberal desperation is growing....

Kinsella threatens NDP
Former Liberal Campaign Chair demands an apology

4/21/2009

In the midst of the Provincial Election campaign, former Liberal Campaign Chair Patrick Kinsella is fighting back against NDP criticism.
His lawyer, James Sullivan with the Vancouver law firm "Blake, Cassels and Graydon" has written NDP Leader Carole James, NDP candidate Leonard Krog, and the New Democratic Party, demanding an apology within three days or further action will be considered.
The letter states articles on the NDP website alleging Kinsella is a corrupt businessman who is using his influence with politicians for unfair personal gain, are false, highly damaging, malicious, and defamatory.
Sullivan writes, "Mr. Kinsella did not receive 300-thousand dollars from the Campbell Government to help sell BC Rail, he never met or spoke to the Premier in respect to the sale of BC Rail."
No where in the letters does Sullivan actually say Kinsella is suing for defamation.
