Tieleman on CKNW AM 980 2:30 p.m. Thursday

I will be discussing the Basi-Virk case with guest host Mike Smyth on CKNW AM 980's The Christy Clark Show today after the 2:30 p.m. news - in particular new information that BC Liberal election campaign co-chair Patrick Kinsella was paid $297,000 by BC Rail from 2002 to 2004.

Judge raises issues of Kinsellas payment in court today, as per Neal Hall from The Sun:

I have always wondered why Christy Clark never ever speaks about this case.

Mike Smyth can guest host and talk about it but why can't (or won't-we don't really know) Christy?

Can someone ask her? I have emailed her show with no responses.

Well, if you were to ask, say, Stone Wally that question?

What do you reckon his answer might be?

Her brother, for one, is up to his nose in it.

Bill - BCTV did a story where Kinsella issued a statement regarding what he did for the $300,000.

He stated that he was paid to do work on the government's core review.

BC Rail also issued a statement that Kinsella was paid for strategic advice at $6000/ month.

Two points. Funny how both Kinsella and BC Rail issued statements despite the governments assertions that the matter is before the courts. Weeks before an election can cause stonewalling positions to be torn down.

Second, the email that was disclosed in court today about BC Rail executives not knowing what Kinsella was paid for other than being a backroom liberal, do not quite support these statements.

Where are the BC Liberal apologists today?

Keith Baldry had a report on the 300K as well. But I noticed in his report he repeatedly called this an "almost forgotten" trial.

Personally my guess is that he had to report on the story because all the other media finally picked up on it but had to water it in some manner.

Mr. Kinsella speaks!

Early details here.

And who, by chance, was the go to guy (or girl) at BCTV that they went to to release their well-timed (ie. post-Court mention) 'statement'?

Good program with Mike today. The more people who speak on such thiungs, the more likely the issues will interet people. 300,000 isn't small change and nobody knows how much money was spread around.

Attorney General Wally Oppal, however, refused to answer any of the questions, saying it might undermine the ongoing trial of three former government aides."
Every time he says that, I remember an old saying... "Tell a lie, long enough, one believes it to be true". Except wally, we are dealing with your buddies, your boss, and his group of thugs. They will be shown out, and I do hope it will be before the election. Wally, people are not as stupid as you make them out to be. Campbell is corrupt, escape now with the rest of the rats, before you are tarred with the same feathers. Be a bigger man wally, tell the truth. Give us back our province!

Keith Baldrey is a blubbering fool, who has his nose so far up Gordon Campbell's ass he could straighten his tie for him.

The trial is "all but forgotten" to Keith because he's about five years away from early retirement and hasn't done a serious, hard-nosed story since VanderZalm left office. Keith is one of the laziest reporters in B.C. The Basi-Virk Trial requires some savvy and cojones, neither of which Mr. Baldrey has.

Not like our Bill Tieleman.

Nice to see that Baldrey's wardrobe hasn't changed in twenty years either. Same khaki shirt and khaki or burgundy tie combo. Mr. Roboto!

Baldry was downplaying this story again this am (Friday) on Bill Bland's show and Bill was only too glad to help move the topic on hastily.
Two "journalists" who should stick to reporting on Britney Spears latest escapades.

Can we determine the payments BC Ferries and other quasi-private government agencies have been making to Kinsella and other Liberal insiders?

So Kinsella scooped a coll $300K for work on the "core review" of BCR, eh. The same core review that, according to the Province's 2002/02 Annual Service Plan found that BCR should NOT be sold or privatised? I assume it is the same review that worked out the "plan" to not privatise, by leasing to CN nearly forever and ever.

$300K to come up with a fantasy that somehow this leasing "arrangement" kept Gordo's election pledge. Unbelievable!

Christy Clark will never willingly speak up on anything to do with this case. Her husband, Mark Marrissen and brother, Bruce Clark, are in it up to their eyeballs. And I suspect many other sketchy things as insider Liberals, both provincial and Liberal. Don't forget, this case involves the federal Liberals too, the RCMP and heaven (or hell perhaps) only knows how many other individuals and organizations.

Also, many of us may have forgotten, but Christy Clark was Deputy Premier, she's gotta know where a lot more skeletons and proverbial corpses lie from being Campbell's right-hand, inner circle hack. I can only speculate, but it's possible she didn't want any part of it anymore then her boss re-assigned her and she was put into the Ministry of Lost Political Careers, Children & Family Development. That is hands down the worst Ministry there is, what with Campbell's handpicked nightmare of a Deputy Minister, Lesley Du Toit, all of the financial and other mismanagement and of course all of those dead children. It hasn't taken Tom Christensen long to get the hell out of dodge. It's just not a Ministry you want to have your name on. And having Campbell put your name on it is a very, very clear sign to those who are inflicted by that assignment. It's a very Machiavellian tactic, put someone you want to get rid of on something that is sure to blow up, create bad optics, make you look incompetent, amoral etc. etc.

Keep digging, but us bloggers and journalists have to start promoting our blogs to wider audiences for the election. Many, many voters have no idea about any of this and they should before they go to the ballot box.

Dear BC Liberals suck:

Please prove that Christy Clark or Mark Marrisen have anything substantive to do with the case.

When the story first broke, the police said that they were "not implicated" and that Marrisen might be the "innocent recipient" of Basi and Virk's resumes.

Hoe does this constitute "up to your eyeballs" in the case?

Has anything changed in the intervening 4 years?
