Where did the Vancouver Sun's Angus Reid poll go that shows BC Liberals would lose even by replacing Gordon Campbell with Carole Taylor?

Mystery solved - the Vancouver Sun story on the poll is now back online - 8 hours after it was first posted and then removed.

The Angus Reid Public Opinion poll has the BC NDP at 48% versus the BC Liberals at just 27% and the Green Party at 13% - no BC Conservative Party numbers are given but they were recently noted at 7%.

Replacing the unpopular Premier Gordon Campbell with either former BC Liberal Finance Minister Carole Taylor or Surrey Mayor Diane Watts would boost the party's fortunes by 7% to 34% - but the NDP would still win - with 44% against Watts and 42% against Taylor, the poll says.

Repeal the HST anyone?

ORIGINAL POSTING BELOW

It's a mystery right now.

The Vancouver Sun - according to Google News, CKNW radio AM 980 newscasts and its own website - has a story about how replacing BC Premier Gordon Campbell would "boost" the BC Liberal Party's fortunes - but the story apparently says that even media darling Carole Taylor and Surrey Mayor Diane Watts would lose the next election to the New Democrats under leader Carole James.

Interesting poll - and one that has been expected from Angus Reid Public Opinion for some time.

But tonight, after posting the story online, the Vancouver Sun appears to have pulled the story - you just can't find it as of 9 p.m. even though the Chad Skelton story was posted 6 hours.

Inquiring minds want to know - did the Sun accidentally post the story and then remove it prior to Friday's newsprint version of the paper arriving on doorsteps? Was there a mistake in the story?

What's clear is that you can't find the story anywhere - including the Angus Reid website.

And what do the polling results mean for BC's embattled premier? Would Taylor or Watts volunteer for a suicide run or would Campbell stay at the helm of the quickly sinking ship?

Keep checking the Vancouver Sun for details - or buy a paper in the morning - it must be front page news!

The new ARS polling numbers listed by the Sun were:

NDP: 48%
Liberal: 27%
Green: 13%

Could be that Angus Reid has embargoed the results and the Sun prematurely posted the story before the appointed hour.

...or it might be the long arm of the conspiring corporatists reaching out to stifle dissent.

-----

Either way: I'm looking forward to the PABbot spin on the story.

Our media is in the pocket of neocons.

IT IS CORRUPT!

Isn't there anything we can do about it?

Speaking of the Sun, Phil Hochstien – BC Liberals #1 water-carrier - has posted a screed about those nasty unions helping to fund the No HST petition drive:

http://communities.canada.com/vancouversun/blogs/communityofinterest/archive/2010/08/04/unions-big-anti-tax-campaign-backers.aspx?CommentPosted=true#commentmessage

Funny, he doesn't mention the business groups that are funding the court challenge to the petition. I'm sure there are small business who pay fees to those associations that would rather not see them spent fighting the HST.

27% is not low enough, so Chairman Campbell is pulling one more trick out of his red mittens. He has ordered PavCo chair David Podmore to tear down the Terry Fox Memorial.

Yaletown resident Gordon Campbell has always hated the Terry Fox Memorial outside of BC Place.

Who could blame Campbell when every day he had to look at the architectural jewel that stood for honesty, integrity, true grit and honour... not to mention the ability to stay on task no matter what.

------
But seriously folks...

Tear down the Terry Fox monument?
Why is PavCo needing to erect a new memorial?

Taylor or Watts Would Boost BC Liberals, But NDP Remains Ahead Published on Aug 06 - 2010
Perceptions of BC Premier Gordon Campbell remain predominantly negative, with three-in-four disapproving of his performance.British Columbia’s governing BC Liberals and Premier Gordon Campbell remain highly unpopular and a change of leadership would not be enough to put the party in first place at this point, a new Angus Reid Public Opinion poll has found.

In the online survey of a representative provincial sample of 800 British Columbian adults, 48 per cent of respondents say they would vote for the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) in the next provincial election, up two points since early Julyadop.

The BC Liberals are far behind with 27 per cent (+4), followed by the Greens at 13 per cent (-1), and the BC Conservatives at six per cent (-2). Six per cent of respondents would vote for other parties or independent candidates.

New Leadership

If former BC Finance Minister Carole Taylor became the new leader of the BC Liberals, this would bring the NDP’s vote share down to 42 per cent, and boost the governing party to 34 per cent. The Greens would remain stable at 12 per cent.

If Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts were to head the BC Liberals into the next election, the NDP would still be 10 points ahead of the Liberals (44% to 34%). The Greens would lose some ground, this time at 10 per cent.

Approval and Momentum

British Columbians continue to condemn the performance of their premier. Campbell’s approval rating stands at a meagre 14 per cent, while his disapproval remains particularly high at 75 per cent.

BC NDP leader Carole James is not precisely popular, with 28 per cent of respondents approving of her performance, and 39 per cent rejecting it.

Jane Sterk, leader of the BC Greens, remains a mystery for most respondents. Among the few people who recognize her, 13 per cent are content with her leadership, and 19 per cent are not.

Only two per cent of respondents say their opinion of Premier Campbell has improved in the past three months, whereas two thirds (67%) say it has worsened, for a momentum score of -65. James’s momentum is also negative yet much better at -6, and Sterk scores a -4.

Methodology: From July 26 to July 28, 2010, Angus Reid Public Opinion conducted an online survey among 800 randomly selected British Columbia adults who are Angus Reid Forum panellists. The margin of error—which measures sampling variability—is +/- 3.5%. The results have been statistically weighted according to the most current education, age, gender and region Census data to ensure a sample representative of the entire adult population of Canada. Discrepancies in or between totals are due to rounding.

Why did they pull the story?

QUESTION:

Why did CANWEST (Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Province) donate $50,000 to the BC Liberal Party in 2005?

That’s the question Charlie Smith from the Georgia Straight was in the middle of asking Gordon Campbell about when suddenly an off-camera woman’s voice interrupted and objected to the line of questioning.

Charlie Smith: "My question is, Canwest donated $50,000 to the BC Liberal Party in 2005. What do you say to someone who wonders if the government has directed government advertising to Canwest in return for political contributions?"

It turns out that the woman was Brigitte Anderson, the premiers press secretary.

Enjoy the clip

How about this gem.

- Vancouver Sun EDITORIAL (May 8, 2009)

QUOTES:

[1] “With a couple of minor exceptions, compared to past B.C. governments, Campbell’s Liberals have been relatively scandal-free.”

[2] “Campbell says his priorities for the next term are reviving the economy, fighting climate change and establishing better relations with aboriginal people.”

[3] “If re-elected for a third term, Campbell will become part of an elite group.”

[4] “In the past century, only three other premiers have been so rewarded by British Columbians.”

[5] “We think he has earned a chance to show he belongs.”

That read more like a Gordon Campbell infomercial to me.

Bought and paid for.

Well the BC League of Plutocrats and "trained seals" attending the $$$ & Caviar/BBQ circuit maybe looking for a new and better investment quite soon.

But the Van Sun polling hick-up is nothing new.

Personally I have always had a soft spot for Kevin Falcon since if you want a true mean bastard dictator Kevin does a Gordo without the BS and phoney caring.

I expect Bill BAD and Pammy BOTOX will soon generate their own polling numbers indicating Gordon is the greatest human in all history (on the Golf Course or in Bed)

Either way its business as usual with everyone dancing around the issues . . . including Carole James.

Sadly for BC there are no options and thus no hope, just more of the Evil Empire.

The GREAT SATAN

I quit buying newspapers, out of Vancouver. I found them too biased and not believable.

I don't understand, why Campbell is fighting tooth and nail, to stay in office? He is destroying, the province, the BC Liberal party, himself, and, the BC citizens. Iggy said, the Liberal party, has been given a bad name, but, not by me.

The peoples anger, is getting worse, and worse. Not only do the citizens, want Campbell gone, now they want the entire Liberal government, wiped out of Canada.

Keep your fingers crossed that this poll still means something in 2013 Bill. If so you might be able to land a real job again.

"Keep your fingers crossed that this poll still means something in 2013 Bill. If so you might be able to land a real job again."

Bill will be thought of for a nice cozy easy to handle job in the Premier's Office once the NDP becomes government.

The NDP protects and helps its own, just as the BC Liberals do.

Don't expect anything critical against the NDP from Bill here despite there is alot to be critical of the NDP about now (one being how the NDP has not taken advantage of the mess the BC Liberals are in)

7:11 PM I hope you are not suggesting that Bill is a blatantly partisan hack or anything like that. It is very clear that Bill is a perfectly non partisan, professional “journalist” exactly as he claims to be.

Oh pluheeze. If you;re going to do a sarcasam routine in practice for stand up comedy at Yuk-Yuk's try to come up with a better topic.

Bill is as partisan as they can get. There hasn't been any hint of critical comment publicly from him about Jame's lacklustre leadership and the directionless state of our NDP.

The NDP is driftwood rolling around gently in the Salish Sea.

Nice bait, Anonymous 7:11 p.m. and fellow travellers - but I'm not biting today. My resume would show I spent 6 months working for Premier Glen Clark way back in 1996, 6 years working for the BC Federation of Labour and now 12 years running my own successful business.

I have no interest in working in government - and apparently neither do Premier Campbell and most BC Liberals. The rest are the ones trying to get rid of him as quickly as possible.
