Worried about your retirement security? Concerned about the Conservatives making Old Age Security eligibility 67 years? Come to Libby Davies Pension Forum on Saturday

Our Pensions Are At Risk!

I am honoured to be speaking this Saturday April 21 at a forum on Pensions hosted by NDP Vancouver East MP Libby Davies.

Bill Tieleman
The Pension Forum runs from 2:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Hastings Community Centre, 3096 East Hastings, at Lillooet Street.

I will be speaking along with Libby, former Vancouver city councillor Ellen Woodsworth, Larry Brown Secretary-General of National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), April Lewis, from CARP / A New Vision of Aging for Canada, and a representative from the Council of Senior Citizens Organizations (COSCO).

I especially encourage younger people to attend - because you are going to be the most negatively affected of all by the changes Prime Minister Stephen Harper is making to pensions!

Hope to see you there!

Sheesh, CARP (or is it CRAP?), Libby Davies, etc. etc.

sounds like another episode of The Left Wing.

Libby Davies should talk. She has a gold plated pension.

The change will really confuse, and hurt a lot of people. Our oldest son will get the OAS, his sister and brother won't. It sure isn't fair as they all have contributed to this country. Anyone who is getting the shaft should be making lots of noise about that stupid move.Kudos to Libby for setting up the event and of course to you for speaking at it.

DPL is clueless. Sure sure, kudos to Libby who along with all politicians, steal from everyone else. She doesn't have the balls to give her precious pension away. At the end, let's reduce all social services. No one deserves it.

Agree. Seems to more of a whine making session than anything of value.

So anon 3:29 figures I'm clueless. To each his own opinion. Try explaining to someone a few days short of the cut off date by our rather stupid federal government that all those years of contributing and expecting the same benefit of others. Did anyone ever explain to anon that for a number of years, specific parts of the tax went directly to the OAS. I can only believe that anon is collecting now and couldn't give a rats ass for anyone who will no longer be able to expect the supplement for an extra two years. And of course those people having to wait, won't be leaving their jobs to someone younger trying to climb the salary ladder. You would have a hard time to hear of some Conservative MP attempting to assist the folks who will be needing that extra money. Older women will have a tougher time, but then again maybe they are clueless as well. Anon 3:29 , you appear to be about as dumb as they come

Like most people, dpl expects free handouts from the government. Tough times will be coming for you dpl. You'll have to get use to sucking cold soup. The ignorance comes from your lack of understanding that moneyn has to come from somewhere. When it runs out, too bad. The elderly should find a job too. Don't be lazy dpl. Won't McDonald's hire a dropout like yourself. When health care becomes two tiered, i'm sure you'll be whining about that too.

"So anon 3:29 figures I'm clueless. To each his own opinion. Try explaining to someone a few days short of the cut off date by our rather stupid federal government that all those years of contributing and expecting the same benefit of others."

Try explaining your whining to someone who has a pension that does not rely 100% on OAP, such as union pension, a public service pension, a good company pension and so forth. A person if they are still healthy can work part time and there are many seniors that do just that.

"Did anyone ever explain to anon that for a number of years, specific parts of the tax went directly to the OAS."

It still does. It's in your paycheque deductions.

"I can only believe that anon is collecting now and couldn't give a rats ass for anyone who will no longer be able to expect the supplement for an extra two years."

A part time job, or just keep goin' at it at the same job would prevent that. Besides it's against the law to simply cut off a person from work simply becaue he or she is 65 years old.

"And of course those people having to wait, won't be leaving their jobs to someone younger trying to climb the salary ladder. You would have a hard time to hear of some Conservative MP attempting to assist the folks who will be needing that extra money.

I have a hard time believing the NDP MP with the same pension as the Conservative MP would have a bleeding heart on the subject.

"Older women will have a tougher time, but then again maybe they are clueless as well. Anon 3:29 , you appear to be about as dumb as they come"

DPL, you might want to extend an apology for your ending remark there.

funny stuff DPL. Guarantee the useless one is yourself. Only one's that should get a pat in the back are those entitled to OAS, etc and get it clawed back by the government. What about these people. They put in all their lives, they end up getting nothing except support your gene pool. Maybe get an education and work hard. That's the only way to get ahead.

I don't think the Anon personal insults against DPL are very informative or reasonable - and don't blame DPL for responding in kind. But let's debate the issues.

Well why not ask DPL to keep his tone down, Bill? Is there some reason why he is being protected as in "don't blame DPL for responding in kind?" But you're right let's debate the issues and end the personal garbage.

what dpl can't fight his own battles. Oh we forget, he wants some else to do all the work. the elderly should work. not all of them worked hard all their lives. if they did, the wouldn't be tight on cash and relying on the government. anytime you rely on the government, you are DOOMED.
