Er, ... ah, ... Bill, did you really have Mike Geoghegan on your show? Was Jenny Kwan invited to rebut?

It's too bad I didn't know about this in time to tune in. I would have liked to hear you ask him why he and Bill Barlee hated Glen Clark with such white-hot intensity.

I have been on CKNW many times in the past few years and I am a weekly guest on CFAX radio in Victoria.

Thaks for keeping up with times Budd.

Bill Barlee and I never hated Glen Clark, we had different viewpoints than Glen. But then again Glen's viewpoint today after a decade in the private sector is no doubt different than what it is back then.

As for Jenny Kwan she and I both agree that its time for you to just let it go and move on. We certainly both have.

"Bill Barlee and I never hated Glen Clark, we had different viewpoints than Glen."

How there's a polite bit of revisionist history! It was perfectly plain at the time that differences over policy or philosophy were mere pretext, that fundamental personal hostilities were at work. It may have been mutual, for all I know, but it was never philosophical.

No, in fact Bill Barlee never hated any other NDP politician other than Colin Gablemann and there were two (former) NDP staffers I could say that I hated at the time. But I did not ever personally hate Glen Clark.

As Bill Barlee once put it to me years ago, Glen Clark will go down in history as either one of the best or one of the worst BC Premiers. Sadly we all discovered how badly things turned out not just for Glen but BC as well.

I also used to say that Glen Clark the Premier would not have tolerated for one minute the antics of Glen Clark the cabinet minister (who used to regularily undermine Mike Harcourt's authority) and that Glen Clark the pitbull opposition MLA would have made mincemeat of Glen Clark the Premier.

I also strongly suspect that Glen Clark who is now a senior manager for Jimmy Pattison can now look back at his time as a young Premier and say if only I knew then what I know now...

But then again Budd I would have much more respect for your views if you had the honesty (and guts) to post under your real name and with a valid contact e-mail as I routinely do.

You don't seem to realize that you give yourself away when you admit that there were one or two personalities in the NDP Govt that you and Barlee hated. You then immediately insist that you never hated Clark. And then immediately add that he was a complete disaster, etc., etc. But no, he wasn't one of the ones you hated. Sure, Geoghegan.

In 1999, when your associate Bernard Schulmann was doing his first great "zero seats for the NDP" projection spreadsheet, you and Barlee were advertising yourselves to the media and to NDP supporters as dissenting New Democrats, concerned about the party's direction and prospects.

The truth, which you witheld from your public commentaries, was that both of you had joined the Liberal Party by late 1996. Your role in personally undermining Clark as NDP leader is a bit like that of Ujjal Dosanjh, his successor and the Attorney General whose public statements finally forced Clark's resignation. Unlike you and Barlee, Dosanjh did not actually join the Liberal Party in 1995 or 1996. But he did start negotiating to join at that time, and conducted his recruitment talks with such upper level national Liberals as Brian Tobin and Paul Martin.

As to what Glen Clark thinks about today as a prospering executive in the Pattison empire, I don't know. But my guess would be that he feels that he has done a lot better financially since he left provincial politics that either yourself, or Bill Barlee, or Ujjal Dosanjh.

BTW, ... how cum Schulmann never does a spreadsheet exercise when the NDP's poll standings are looking good?

Hi "Budd"

I was looking for your real name and email address not your sock puppet email address. If you ever decide to come out of hiding let me know.

As for Bernard you would have to ask him. As he and I have told you many times before we are no longer associated. I'm not sure if you are being obtuse about this (ie took the short bus to school) or are just forgetful in any event you have once again been told this fact.

As for the NDP implosion under Glen Clark your posting is a classic example of blaming the messengers. If you ever have the courage to send me your real contact info I would be happy to meet you for a coffee and I will bring a box tissues to help you get over this issue that you have been obsessing about for the past ten years.

Because Budd or whomever you really need to move on as everyone else has.

Mike
