They in many ways relish the ease of second or third place ....all the perks none of the responsibilities . If they even showed a glimmer of interest in running this province , Dix put that to rest . Nationally just look at what just happened '' Shit Happened '' Christophernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35935973.post-61779488819508576342015-11-05T12:55:49.892-08:002015-11-05T12:55:49.892-08:00After rereading the original article, I stand corr...After rereading the original article, I stand corrected. I think that the only other Brian Topp involvement inferred is in last year's Ontario election. Good to know that he's working full time for my tax dollars. Keep me posted on any other out-of-work NDs that pop up near me.
PeterInEdmontonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35935973.post-77480605392469033022015-11-04T22:10:33.173-08:002015-11-04T22:10:33.173-08:00Peter - I didn't say Brisn Topp was involved i...Peter - I didn't say Brisn Topp was involved in the federal NDP campaign and don't see how he could have been. I was referring to the BC NDP 2013 campaign, Olivia Chow Toronto mayoralty and others.Bill Tielemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03304971610140279157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35935973.post-59148217222976026092015-11-04T20:52:40.973-08:002015-11-04T20:52:40.973-08:00Here’s my perspective from Alberta:
I was interest...Here’s my perspective from Alberta:
I was interested to hear that Brian Topp played a key role. Do you happen to know what his formal title was on the Federal NDP campaign? I am annoyed that he wasn’t working full-time for the Province as Notley’s chief of staff. Did he take a leave of absence from his Alberta job to work on the campaign? While I fear that this may happen with other parties, you tried to brand the NDP on October 18th as the party of principle. This might help explain the glacial pace of the new regime. There were also a rumour floating around here that the Alberta budget was delayed because it would contain bad news that would taint the federal campaign. Sure enough, when it came out the promised balanced budget slid a year further into the future. That brings my count of Alberta NDP broken promises up to three so far (a broken arts funding pledge and a commitment to action on royalties next year being the others). I think that the voters of Alberta smelled a rat, which may have led to no further NDP gains here.
Speaking of your Oct. 18th post, I think that Trudeau used a correct strategy of being vague on TPP. It is ridiculous to oppose a trade agreement without even having read it. Also, you tried to sell it as the party of principle on Oct 18th and now admit that running on a balanced budget violated that principle.
To Trudeau’s credit, he managed to produce a credible Liberal candidate in my riding, with a few opinions of her own on her web site, as opposed to the placeholder Ignatieff offered me last time. I agree with much of your national analysis. The “just visiting” campaign, while unpleasant, had a ring of truth last time. I can dig up a BBC podcast from after the last election to prove it if you are interested. Although Trudeau does not have as much real world experience as I would like, he had served seven years in the house prior to the election, so the “Not Ready” campaign in weird way branded him from the TORY side as the main contender for PM. I tried to avoid the commercials, but both the anti and pro NDP ads fail to surface in my memory.
Then there’s the charm side of things. Notley won in Alberta because she smiled and waved and we were tired of the other guys. Trudeau smiled and waved and wasn’t the other guy and Le Bon Jack wasn’t around to smile and wave.PeterInEdmontonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35935973.post-16858668584729773782015-11-04T12:12:39.950-08:002015-11-04T12:12:39.950-08:00The election is over, the electorate have spoken. ...The election is over, the electorate have spoken. I support NDP values, and can only hope the Liberals deliver on their promises. They have campaigned on the left before, then go on to govern on the right. They do have a strong majority, but it seems we did usually get good things minority governments.Franknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35935973.post-87928123911332540782015-11-03T23:52:34.287-08:002015-11-03T23:52:34.287-08:00Agree with many of your points BUT I would like to...Agree with many of your points BUT I would like to know:
1. Liberals vs NDP who spent the most money on TV and other advertising? on campaign tools in general.
2. How much support and air time was given to Trudeau vs Mulcair by the media?
3. How much money was given to Liberals by corporations and corporate elite vs ordinary folk contributions to the NDP.
4. what was the connection between polling results and the media/journalists adopting a "done deal" attitude and why did they not discuss during the election why Mulcair was dropping?

I feel that the Liberals had more money, more support from media, more backing by corporate elite who own the press and perhaps may have paid the pollsters to skew results slowly and little by little. The whole thing smells dirty. Prove me wrong with hard facts. The Trudeau Liberals showed that being agile, quick, and turning from reactive defense to proactive initiative is effective - they basically ran a gorilla campaign against an inflexible machine.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
